| Abstract | Using the three-dimensional explicit finite-difference beam propagation method, we in ̈estigate the effect of placing an etched groo ̈e in the region separating the two rib wa ̈eguides of a directional coupler. The purpose of the groo ̈e is to inhibit channel interaction. We concentrate on the calculation of the groo ̈e depth necessary for channel isolation.
