Abstract	In Poland the waste neutralization by storing is still one of the most often applied methods. Proper safeguard of the municipal landfill site reduces the contamination of the surrounding environment to a minimum. However, facilities which does not have such safeguard, although they work legally, pose a problem These landfills constitute a direct pollution source for underground and surface waters, soils and first of all atmospheric air. As a result of processes of putrefactive and fermentation occurring inside stored waste, is reaching coming into existence of pollutants microbiological, moving to considerable distances. Effects of municipal buildings of this type on the environment and human health is a very difficult matter to examine which requires comprehensive long-term monitoring research. The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of unorganized, legally working municipal landfill sites, devoid of basic safeguarding, on microbiological quality of atmospheric air. The most polluted atmospheric air in terms of appearing of quota bacteria was stated in the active zone of the stockpile and in his neighbourhood, mainly to the distance of 100 m, and The number of appearing microorganisms in air depended from: of the season, the distance from the centre of the stockpile and direction of the blowing wind. Quantitative and quality composition is indicating the microflora stated in the air of the inspected stockpile to the threat of the health of people, as well as constitutes the risk of contamination of the natural environment
