| Abstract | This article presents the results of a master’s degree dissertation in education, carried through January 2004 to December 2006, about the process of political-syndical organization of the education professionals in Santa Catarina, more particularly in the West of Santa Catarina. Th e basic intention of this research �as to describe the tra�ectory of the conflicts undertaken by the category during the period bet�een 1988 and 2006. Taking as reference the most important �orks on syndical organization in Brazil, developed by Ricardo Antunes, Armando Boito, Leôncio Martins Rodrigues and many others, this research describes the processes of political-syndical organization of the teachers in the West of Santa Catarina. Through the documentary research and the techniques of oral memory, it �as looked to kno� the experiences lived deeply for the involved syndical leaders in this process. The study demonstrated that the political organization of the teachers in Santa Catarina reached its apex �ith the creation of the SINTE, in 1998, ending the strong assistance tradition fed by the ACP and the ALISC, established, respectively, in 1952 and 1966. The SINTE fortified the category politically and �as decisive for the conquest of several labor la�s for the teaching category in Santa Catarina. The research sho�s, also, that from the second half of the 90’s, the political-syndical movement of the teachers starts to face mobilization difficulties and initiates a gradual process of �eakness and deprives of legitimization, including the teachers and the school community.
