Tendencia del cambio en el cubrimiento vivo por corales pétreos en los arrecifes coralinos de Cuba

Abstract	Weighted averages of live coral cover obtained in Cuba from recent available information (2003 a 2009) were 17,6% for reef crests and 13,4% for forereefs. Average annual decline of live stony coral cover in Cuban reef crests and forereefs were wery alike, 1,78%/year and 1,75%/year respectively, with a joint average of 1,76 %/year. This latter average is a bit lower than those estimated by other authors for the wider Caribbean (2,5% to 2,7% per year). The relationship between between the annual rate of decrease of live coral cover and the initial live coral cover was reperesented by the regression y = 0,0456x + 0,0142. However, there was a great dispersion of sites with with initial cover lower than 40%, which does not suggest such dependency. Departing from this regression, reef persistence time (in years) according to the inicial live coral cover was represented by the potential function y = 21,018Ln(x) 34,464. According to the acceptance on not of such dependency, obtained scenarios of disappearance of average type reefs were after 7 to 26 years for reef crests and 5 to 20 years for forereefs, provided the environmental trends persist.
