| Abstract | The "present participle" form of the verb, today only a noun phrase, worked either as a noun or as a verb in Spanish Middle-Age and Renaissance. It was perhaps due to latinism or to gallicism. Its behavior as a noun is observed either as an adjective or as a substantive. On the other hand, the verbal function is shown either as a personal form or as a form with ah l the typical complements: direct and indirect objects, circumstantial complements, etc. This kind of construction is named "absolute or incidental construction". Finally, the adverbial elements "no obstante" and "non embargante" and the prepositions "mediante" and "durante" are observed working as a "present participle". |
