| Abstract | To assess the diversity and to characterize morphologically the mycorrhizal fungi associated with wild and domesticated husk tomato plants cultivated in Arteaga, Coahuila, soil sampling was performed by the zigzag method at a depth of 30 cm; Spores were extracted and characterized considering their shape, color and size to establish a monosporic culture in wheat plants to ensure an accurate characterization; for this, diameter, shape, number of layers, color, thickness, percentage of colonization, presence and / or absence of vesicles and arbuscules were evaluated. According to the classification of spores, 12 morphotypes from wild husk tomato and nine from the domesticated husk tomato were inoculated. Ten out of the 12 wild husk tomato morphotypes (W1, W2, W3, W4, W5, W6, W7, W9, W10 and W11) and two out of the nine domesticated husk tomato morphotypes (D2 and D5) established symbiosis in wheat plants. Morphotype W1 had the highest colonization (57.81%) followed by D2 (47.2%) and W9 (43.08%); the lowest colonization was observed in morphotype W11 (27.16%). The wild and domesticated morphotypes were similar in shape, presence and / or absence of vesicle and arbuscle, whereas in all the morphotypes there was one spore layer, except for W1 that had two. Spore diameters ranged from 107 to 196 μm and thickness from 7 to 12.8 μm. Most frequent spore color was the orange brown (0-60-100-10). The soil in wild husk tomato contained more morphotypes and had a greater potential inoculum than the ones from the domesticated husk tomato. |
