| Abstract | The past year has shed some interesting light on the Brazilian Partido dos Trabalhadores. Last October they were celebrating some big municipal victories in Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, but more recently, PT governors in both Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul have been questioned by some in the party whether they are governing in a way deemed correct. It is in the context of these two very different experiences that this paper considers the role the PT played in Espirito Santo between 1995 and 1998. Given the importance granted to both sets of experiences, it is surprising that very little appears to have been written on the subject. |
