| Abstract | Legg-Calve-Perthes disease: critical analysis of SalterThompson’s classification The authors analyzed 642 records of patients with LeggCalve-Perthes disease seen in the period from January 1981 to December 1996. Subchondral fracture was identified in the radiographic documentation in the femoral head of fifty patients and they were selected for further studies. Admitted to this study were only those patients with follow-up of two or more years, 38 of them remained in the study with 38 hips involved. Initially a radiographic evaluation using Salter & Thompson’s and Catterall’s classification was made. Later the hips were classified according to Mose’s method of concentric circles. Based on statistical analysis of the data the authors challenge the usefulness and applicability of Salter & Thompson’s method for early diagnosis and for prognosis in Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. |
