Abstract	The industrial sector, the food industry, including dairy products, is activities with high pollution potential because they consume a large volume of water and generate wastewater with high organic load. With the increasing demands on the control of pollution generated, as well as charging for the proper use of water resources, companies are obliged to invest in treatments. The objective of this study was to perform a technical analysis of the different stages of treatment of effluents from a dairy company in the region of Passo Fundo/RS, identifying possible difficulties or failures in different processes used. Data were obtained through site visits and analysis of spreadsheets control of wastewater treatment station of the assessed company. The parameters analyzed were: Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Suspended Solids, Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus. The results corresponding to the months of March, April, May, June, July, August and October of 2010 and mostly, met the standards for effluent discharge. The results were compared with the Operating License of the company, which follows the required by the National Environmental Council and State Environmental Council standards. With this study it can be concluded that the combination of physicochemical and biological treatments is suitable for treating the effluent generated by the company.
