Abstract	Se realiza una investigacion descriptiva con el objetivo de conocer el valor del hemocultivo en el diagnostico de la leptospirosis humana. Se revisan las historias clinicas de 59 pacientes ingresados en el Hospital "Abel Santamaria" durante el trimestre octubre - diciembre del ano 2000, con el diagnostico presuntivo de leptospirosis, recogiendose los resultados del hemocultivo realizado en 54 pacientes, la microaglutinacion, hecha en 30 pacientes y la hemaglutinacion pasiva en los 59 enfermos. Se discuten las causas de pruebas serologicas negativas en presencia de la enfermedad. El diagnostico se realizo por hemocultivo en 17 pacientes y solo en 12 con la microaglutinacion y en 8 con la hemaglutinacion, teniendo ademas el hemocultivo la posibilidad de brindar el conocimiento de los serogrupos actuantes. Se recomienda la generalizacion de esta prueba bacteriologica a los otros hospitales de la provincia. DeCS: LEPTOSPIROSIS/ diagnostico. ABSTRACT A descriptive research is performed aimed to know the value of blood culture in the diagnosis of Leptospirosis in humans. Medical records from 59 patients admitted to the Abel Santamaria General Hospital during October ? December 2000 were reviewed, being Leptospirosis the presumptive diagnosis. Blood culture results were obtained from 54 patients, microagglutination test was made in 30 patients and passive hemoagglutination in 59 patients. Causes of negative serological tests are discussed as related to the disease. Diagnosis was obtained by blood cultures in 17 patients and in 12 patients only using microagglutination test and in 8 patients using the hemoagglutination, so it was possible to know the serogroups through the blood culture. It is recommended that this bacteriological test be used at all hospitals in the province. DeCS: LEPTOSPITOSIS/ diagnosis.
