| Abstract | Nebojsa Nakicenovic, born in 1949 in former Yugoslavia, studied economics and computer science at Princeton University, and completed his doctorate at the University of Vienna, Austria. In 1973 he joined the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) near Vienna to conduct studies on long-term, global energy prospects and on the restructuring of the global automotive industry. Later he led programmes on the dynamics of technological and social change and environmentally compatible energy strategies. Nakicenovic is currently Deputy Director of IIASA, Professor of Energy Economics and Head of the Energy Economics Group at the Vienna University of Technology, and Director of the Global Energy Assessment. His research focuses on the diffusion of new technologies and their interactions with the environment. |
