| Abstract | Se realizo un estudio de casos y controles para identificar algunos de los factores epidemiologicos que incidieron en los 158 recien nacidos con bajo peso en el Hospital Ginecoobstetrico Docente Nelia Irma Delfin Ripoll del municipio de Palma Soriano (provincia de Santiago de Cuba), desde enero de 2005 hasta diciembre de 2007. Los resultados se validaron mediante la razon de productos cruzados y el riesgo atribuible expuesto porcentual. Se analizaron las variables: edad materna, evaluacion nutricional a la captacion, ganancia de peso y enfermedades maternas asociadas al embarazo, y se concluyo que estas, con excepcion de la edad, constituyeron factores de riesgo para el nacimiento de ninos con bajo peso. Entre los factores de riesgo figuro, ademas, el parto pretermino, y las enfermedades asociadas fueron: hipertension arterial inducida por el embarazo, sepsis urinaria, infeccion vaginal y anemia. A case-control study was carried out to identify some of the epidemiologic factors which caused 158 newborns with low birth weight in Nelia Irma Delfin Ripoll Teaching Gynecologic and Obstetric Hospital in Palma Soriano municipality (Santiago de Cuba province), from January, 2005 to December, 2007. The results were validated by means of the crossed products ratio and by the percentage exposed attributable risk. The variables such as maternal age, nutritional evaluation at their first visit, weight gain and maternal diseases associated to pregnancy were analyzed, and it was concluded that these, except age, constituted risk factors for the birth of underweight children. Among the risk factors there were also, preterm birth, and the associated diseases were: pregnancy-induced blood pressure, urinary sepsis, vaginal infection and anemia. |
