| Abstract | EnglishBeyond broad policy declarations, the implementation of ecological transition — which consists mainly in curbing consumption of energy and raw materials in our societies — requires substantial behavioural change at the collective, but also, quite obviously, the individual level. Yet, though there is general consensus around the principle of embarking on the path to transition, things get more complicated when it comes to changing our practices and habits. Can we act on individual behaviour and collective dynamics in respect of this particular aim of ecological transition, and, if so, how are we to go about it? Solange Martin and Albane Gaspard have examined this question for the French Envir - onment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and offer us the fruit of their la - bours here. They show, for example, how the social and human sciences help to understand behaviour both at the individual level and in its collective dimensions, and they outline different possible lines of action to modify it. But, given the entanglement between various levels, it is essential, if we are to act effectively on behaviour, to combine approaches, tools and actors, and to analyse and understand social practices thoroughly before implementing political projects or measures. francaisLa mise en œuvre de la transition ecologique — qui consiste principalement a reduire fortement les consommations d’energie et de matieres premieres dans nos societes — necessite, au-dela des politiques en enoncant les grands axes, de substantiels changements a l’echelle collective, mais aussi, bien evidemment, a l’echelle individuelle. Peut-on — et comment — agir sur les comportements individuels et sur les dynamiques collectives, en particulier dans cette optique de transition ecologique ? Solange Martin et Albane Gaspard se sont penchees sur cette question pour le compte de l’ADEME et nous livrent ici le fruit de leur travail. Elles soulignent l’apport des sciences sociales et humaines pour comprendre les comportements a l’echelle individuelle et dans leur dimension collective, et presentent differentes voies d’actions possibles pour les inflechir. Mais compte tenu des intrications entre les differentes echelles, il est essentiel, pour agir efficacement sur les comportements, de combiner les approches, les outils et les acteurs, et de bien analyser et comprendre les pratiques sociales avant la mise en œuvre de projets ou mesures politiques. |
