Abstract	The present study aimed to analyze the epidemiological situation of the hospitalizations of the elderly due to conditions sensitive to Primary Health Care in Pernambuco. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of elderly individuals aged 60 to 79 years, living in the state of Pernambuco, in the period from 2012-2016. The data were collected from the Hospital Information System of SUS (SIH / SUS), which is responsible for processing hospital admissions authorizations (AIHs), using the Tabwin application (Version 3.6). For data analysis, the research was divided into two axes: Clinical-epidemiological and demographic aspects. In the first axis, the main causes of hospitalizations were identified according to the ICD-10 chapters; in the second axis the demographic aspects were analyzed according to the variables of age group and gender. A total of 131,382 hospitalizations of the elderly were registered for conditions sensitive to primary care. According to the sexes, they presented a total of 66,379 (50.52%) of ICSAP in females and 66,003 (49.47%) in males. The range that most affected the elderly was from 70 to 74 years old with 34,410 (26.19%). It is evidenced that the qualification of PHC is essential and can contribute to reduce the number of hospitalizations due to preventable causes through actions to promote and prevent chronic noncommunicable diseases, as well as greater attention to the control of infections of the kidney and the urinary tract and infectious gastroenteritis and complications.
