| Abstract | Tall, debonair, considered handsome by all who knew him, Charles Coakley was one of the outstanding anesthesiologists of this century. Born in Washington, D.C., he re mained a Washingtonian all his life. His college and medical school training were at George Washington University where he received his M.D. degree in 1937. His resi dency training and fellowship followed at the Washington University Hospital and he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1948.
