| Abstract | Gelatin (G) and chitosan (QS) membranes are used with Guided Tissue Regeneration (RTG) due to its biodegradability and high cell adhesion. The incorporation of hydroxyapatite (HA) induces osteogenesis and grants mechanical resistance to the formed composites. The membranes were produced by in situ precipitation of HA in a solution containing gelatin, followed by QS addition. Crosslinking with sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) and glutaraldehyde (GTA) were carried out. The composites were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IV), X-ray diffraction (DRX), swelling and cytotoxicity assays. The IV spectra indicate agreement among the membranes, and through DRX HA and -TCP peaks were identified. The crosslinking with GTA bestowed higher resistance to aqueous medium, but it lowered the cell viability. Therefore, the in situ precipitation method was effective to form the membranes, and after crosslinking with TPP, they showed good results concerning cell viability, indicating that these membranes are promising to be used with RTG. |
