| Abstract | Messianism has been a crucial element of all great religions. With the crisis of a religious country, Messianism has started to grow into the political culture of the Western countries. An attempt to define Messianism is dificult since it is considered to be a set of beliefs, an idea and a myth as well. Messianism arises with the occurring of a Messiah – a charismatic leader. Messianism has been transferred into politics from theology. Very strong emotional sphere in politics favours the occurrence of Messianic movements. Judaism is one of the great religions in which the Messianic element has been particularly dominating. In Judaism - eology there have been a dozen or so di. erent concepts of Messianism. - us political messianism from Israeli point of view has got its own character – Judaism as a religion of one nation affects intensively social life. Living in dispersal Jews started to assimilate with the societies they lived in. However, the expectation for the Messiah, deeply rooted in Israeli nation, caused the rise of inferiority complex and consequently the rising of the Zionist movement. Zionism tenet did not correspond with the traditionally understood Messianism but it was the result of the secularization process. Israel, a country born a/ er World War II, was not a secular country since during first alija the Jews coming to Israel from Eastern Europe were not “absorbed” by the enlightenment trend. |
