| Abstract | Prospection of alpine permafrost by DC resistivity soundings in the Diablerets Range (VD) and at the Mont Gelé (Nendaz, VS) DC resistivity soundings give good results concerning the ice content in the underground. The method was used in three small periglacial valleys in the Diablerets and Mont Gelé areas. Field results show the presence of two types of rock glaciers. Rock glaciers with congelation ice are formed essentially by ice produced by congelation of percolation water. Rock glaciers with sedimentary ice are formed by superposition of buried glacier tongues. The superposition is the result of the alternation of wet and cold climatic periods and warmer ones. Scree slopes usually have more ice in the foot of slope than in the slope. The large scree slope at Lapires shows a complex structure resulting of the combination of various processes.
