| Abstract | Riverbanks offer opportunities to lodge several recreation activities and soft mobility paths. This internship report focuses on theme of waterfront public space, presenting a rehabilitation proposal for the Caminho entre Quintas, a stretch of the Douro river left bank located between the Freixo bridge and the old Quinta dos Cubos, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, and corresponding accesses. This work included an analysis of the study area, which includes the area of the Caminho entre Quintas and its surroundings. Special attention was paid to the historical pre-existences (the farms and their old docks), to the relationship between the Caminho entre Quintas and the Douro river, to the necessity to establish a continuity solution with bike and pedestrian pathway at west, and to the accesses to the site. The proposal includes a group of strategic solutions to access the Caminho entre Quintas and requalification design for the Caminho entre Quintas. This design preserves the historical pre-existences, integrates the historical relations between the river and its margin, establishes a continuity solution with the waterfront at west, and seeks to meet the current user needs in order to create a dynamic and attractive space. |
