| Abstract | An anthropology and a regressive history on the impact of the Triple Alliance war, based on ethnography, interviews in Guarani and investigation in the Misiones archives, a Paraguayan region, are provided. More than 130 years after the end of the war, family's stories and genealogies reveal to what the year 1870 is still lived as a total new beginning. Types of memory, such as the mythical (jaguar's legend), broken (kinship), blocked (women forced to go to war because all men must die) and manipulated (politics) classes are distinguished. It will further be seen how most of the prewar population, especially pardos and Indians effectively disappear during the conflict, physically and as a social category. |
