| Abstract | Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infectious disease that can affect all age groups of both children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. In men aged 35-65 years, the incidence of UTI will rise, either because they occurred prostatic hyperplasia / obstruction that causes disruption of the mechanism of the flow of urine. Methods: This research was made on an analytic design with case control approach. The population in this research were all patient aged more than 50 years old in Urology Division of Central General Hospital Haji Adam Malik Medan. Samples were 80 respondent, taken by consecutive sampling method. Research data was analyzed with Chi square hypothesis test. Aim of Study: The goal of this research is to find out the relationship between Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and the event of urinary tract infection in Central General Hospital Haji Adam Malik Medan. Results: Based on the Chi square test, the p value is 0,001 (CI 99%) that shows there is relationship between Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and the event of urinary tract infection. The odds ratio is 10,3, so it can be assumed that Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a risk factor for occurring urinary tract infection. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is there is relationship between Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and the event of urinary tract infection. |
