| Abstract | This paper is the first French translation of a series of essays published in German and English from 2001–2006 on the topic of tube weaning in infancy. Tube weaning demands a thorough understanding of the developmental process of learning to eat from, on the one hand, a pediatric and developmental point of view and, on the other hand, from the perspective of sensitivity for the quality of feeding interaction. Additionally, perhaps the biggest task is acquiring knowledge about the dynamics within the teams of the involved institutions and the question of being able to influence them. This work is based on over 20 years of clinical experience treating a large range of feeding and eating behavior disorders in infancy in a psychosomatic unit at a very large university pediatric hospital. The incidence of psychodynamic training and specialization in the professional medical and nursing teams is above average. We have had the great privilege of meeting hundreds of infants from all over Europe who have been tube fed for most of their lives. The desire of all parents who received treatment was to wean their children off feeding tubes (nasogastric, gastrostomy, or jejunal). |
