| Abstract | Film always influencing and forming society based on the content of message behind it. Messages or values that contained in the film can influence the audience. Maleficent film is adaptation of fairy tale Sleeping Beauty that tells the life of a fairy named Maleficent. Through this film, the women character are portrayed as active narrative subject and bring feminism message. Feminism topic interests the researcher because during this time women are portrayed as passive narrative objects even as erotic objects in the film. Based on this movie, the researcher is willing to know how the representation of feminism in the movie Maleficent. This study is a qualitative research, with constructivism and applied the particular semiotic approach specifically in Roland Barthes semiotic. There are three stages to analyze the object according to Barthes, the stage of denotation, connotation and myth stage. The result show that Maleficent is a movie that represents feminism by showing the power of women. Subtheme used to analyze the film is the relationship of women with nature , women as leaders and the relationship of women with children |
