| Abstract | Chlamydia trachomatis is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) frequently by bacteria, caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis which affects the genitals of women and men. Its importance lies in the magnitude of the spread of this disease, the peculiar characteristics of its clinical presentation and complications that may arise because of a lack of diagnosis or treatment, or both. The prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis in different studies varies from 3 to 5 percent in asymptomatic women attending family planning clinics, increasing to higher figures of 20 percent in STD clinics. Some authors are in the 20-35 % of acute infections. Intrauterine maneuvers can be the starting point of the infections, consecutive placement of intrauterine devices. In Ecuador this data is unknown in our diagnosis is mainly based on clinical manifestations, that strategy has its limitations in cases of a high rate of asymptomatic infections, as such the true prevalence is unknown. Objective: To determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis in patients attending family planning Control Center Northern Health and the National Police to establish whether the IUD was a triggering factor for infection , opening new etiological hypotheses and conduct more basic research and epidemiological about the causes and the best way for prevention. Methodology: Prior informed consent a transverse epidemiological in 210 women who attended the Centre North of the National Police to control family planning between April and August 2013 Health was conducted by micro ELISA specific antibody blood tests were performed Chlamydia trachomatis IgA for their presence or absence. The descriptive univariate analysis, followed by bivariate in Epi Info VO. 604 CD Atlanta, with a significant value of "p" statistically ≤ 0.05 if analysis. Results: In the study population the prevalence was 18.1 %, being the use of the IUD in a trigger for Chlamydia trachomatis infections in women doing family planning factor. Determinations for Chlamydia trachomatis IgA were comparable in relation to time of IUD use, first intercourse and number of sexual partners. |
