| Abstract | This article offers an insight in the state of affairs of the study of the feast in Spain from a sociological and anthropological perspective. It is stated how the feast has become – after some pioneer research work – a legitimate object of analysis during the decades of the eighties and nineties. The transformation, that the festive ritual was exposed to by modernity, led to a methodological diversification and an epistemological turn. Both, the internal alterations of the object, and the increasing polymorphism of the celebrating subject require rethinking crucial concepts like for example “ritual”, “tradition” or “community”. Finally, some of the important emergent questions in the analysis of the feast are stated and the evident deficiency in its bibliography is remembered. |
