| Abstract | Our initial hypothesis implied that contemporary Argentine literature had mapped marginal subjectivities,e.g., native people, villeros, exiled and immigrant experiences, and women’s lives, in anattempt to overcome pervasive dichotomies (Europe/Argentina, civilization/savagery, city/country,feminine/masculine), because these should be thought more as theoretical fictions whose goal is tokeep hegemony in place. Our main goal was to rethink these dichotomies as an access to a literature that textually showsa society best characterized by Nestor Garcia Canclini’s concept of “hybrid culture”: multi-ethnicand multi-temporal heterogeneities, coexistence and intermingling of archaic, modern and postmodernconfigurations, as well as high, popular and mass cultures. In other words, a society wherethe very concept of “border” is in question and leaning towards, not its dissolution, but at least itsinstability.Once we thoroughly read the main bibliography considered unavoidable (concerning conceptssuch as “subject”, “marginality”, “border”, “canon”, etc.), and after reflecting on a wide corpus ofArgentine literature of the last fifty years, with a special focus on the 21st century (Daniel Moyano,Jacobo Fijman, Alvaro Abos, Guillermo Saccomano, Sergio Olguin, Gabriela Cabezon Camara,Leonardo Oyola, Washington Cucurto, among others), we concluded that our hypothesis was notonly appropriate, but it also was confirmed thanks to our research. The outcome of these years ofresearch, among other activities and publications, is a joint volume titled Poetics of/from the Marginin Argentine Literature. The Regime of the Visible and the Invisible. It was published as a monographicvolume in Gramma n° 52, in its Collection of Critical Studies on Argentine Literature. |
