| Abstract | The present clash between the assertion of one's identity and the aspiration to universality refers to social praxis rather than to doctrines or theories. Ch. Taylor's criticism, from the perspective of hermeneutics, leads to that social atomism which has generated the modern notion of identity, and suggests an affiliation of the individual through his teleological self-construction. From L. Polo's point of view the Hegelian roots of this proposal, which can be surpassed without denying or contradicting it through the notion of identity as referring to origin, are shown as filiation. Such a position demands the consideration of the individual as a person who anthropologically and ethically integrates identity and universality. |
