| Abstract | Part One of Professor Siegel's long essay, II Educating Reason: Critical Thinking, Informal Logic and the Philosophy of Education," was published not in this journal but in the American Philosophical Association's Newsletter on Teaching Philosophy. In the article printed below, which can be read independently of Part One, Siegel addresses the question of the justification of critical thinking as an educational ideal. In our view the issues involved are sufficiently important, and Siegel's handling of them sufficiently perspicacious, to justify the publication of Part Two by itself. |
