| Abstract | Background: Traumatic injuries product of a head trauma can cause bleeding laceration of blood vessels that can accumulate in brain cisterns, cerebral sulci and fissures and subdural and epidural hemorrhage one of the main consequences. Material and methods: We included non-randomly, 162 patient records with traumatic brain injury who were treated at the Abel Gilbert Pontón hospital. Patients treated between January 1 to December 31, 2014 were included; records with incomplete information that would prevent diagnostic confirmation of cerebral hemorrhage were excluded. Results: The prevalence of subdural and epidural hematomas in patients with head trauma treated at the Abel Gilbert Ponton hospital was 53.8%. The age of those affected is generally between 20 and 39 years and are male. The hospital stay was 1 and 14 days at most, the mechanism of injury are more associated traffic accidents and most had no complications, and among which if developed nosocomial pneumonia was the most frequent. Conclusions: The present data in patients with head injury is high and the clinical and demographic characteristics of the patients are in line with global reporting. |
