| Abstract | Spin-off companies are amongst the multiple devices available to universities to commercialise and transfer the scientific knowledge they generate. They form part of the fundamental substratum for the innovative process driven by the needs of the capital cities in the most developed economies. Moreover, these can also attract the attention of the mass media, which occasionally transforms the activity of these unusual companies into an object of newsworthiness. The main purpose of this research is to analyse and compare the media focus received by Based-Technology Companies from two of the most prolific universities developing spin-off entities: the University of Granada and the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In this way, an attempt is made to penetrate the media-built portrayal of this output of technoscientific performance and, along this process, to study the knowledge transfer model used by public-financed scientific institutions. |
