| Abstract | I this chapter, our focus is on how we can get rid of poverty in the United States. By getting rid of poverty, we mean getting all poor Americans above what the federal government says is the poverty line (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.). For example, the 2006 poverty line for a family of three (e.g., a mother and two children) was $15,927, and the 2006 poverty line for a family of four was $20,066 (Tax Policy Center, n.d.). So, the key question of this chapter is as follows: What can we do in our country to get all poor Americans out of their poverty or, more specifically, above the poverty line? Let us first make some assumptions and then discuss what we can do. |
