| Abstract | Echocardiogram (also called transthoracic echocardiogram) – A gel is spread on the chest and a wand called a transducer is pressed against the skin. The wand sends out sound waves that reflect the structure of the heart. Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) – A small transducer is inserted down the esophagus (swallowing tube), which lies close to the heart. A TEE provides a more detailed image. |
