| Abstract | This study analyzed and mapped the development of new products and services, identifying the variables that intervene in this process in an Institution of Professional Education. In order to reach the goals that were proposed a case study was performed, in which data on the process of product and service development was collected and analyzed. In the analysis, it was chosen to use the process stages of product and service development, common among the authors used in the theoretical referential (ATUAHENE-GIMA, 1996; BELL, 1991; COOPER; KLEINSCHMIDT, 1995; GOLISH; BESTERFIELD-SACRE; SHUMAN, 2008; GRIFFIN, 1997; GRIFFIN; HAUSER, 1996; KOTLER; ARMSTRONG, 1998, P. 217; URBAN; HAUSER, 1993). In order to identify the intervenient variables, the references were the main literature of the main journals on the subject (LESTER, 1998; POOLTON; BARCLAY, 1998; COOPER, 1994a; COOPER, 1999; LYNN; ABEL; VALENTINE; WRIGHT, 1999; KAHN; BARCZAK; MOSS, 2006; COOPER, KLEINSCHMIDT, 2007; COOPER; EDGETT, 2008). In that sense, the variables were grouped in six dimensions related to the DNPS (Development of New Product and Service) process, corresponding to having a defined strategy to new product or service, the portfolio management, the planning process of new product or service development, the consumer participation on the process, the role of the people and the use of metrics. The study considered especially the context in which the researched organization is placed, the Brazilian educational field. Therefore, it was considered an appropriate environment to investigate the relationships proposed in this study, because of document analysis, as well as interview content, generated relevant findings to broaden the comprehension of the main reasons focused on the study. The results of the research reveal that the organization uses a standard process of DNPS and its stages adjust to the common stages proposed by the authors mentioned in the theoretical referential (GOLISH; BESTERFIELD-SACRE; SHUMAN, 2008), having some variations regarding the activities to be performed according to the type of product. In regards to the variables, it was possible to identify them, showing that the proposed dimensions intervene in the organization ́s process of DNPS (Development of New Product and Service) in a bigger or smaller scale. In conclusion, the academic and the management implications of the results are exposed, in addition to its limitations and new research possibilities. Key-Words: Innovation, DNPS Process, Intervenient Variables. |
