Abstract	The present article shows a part of the results of investigation developed in the project «Application of the theories of the organization and the management in companies of goods and services in Colombia » financed by Colciencias and the Universidad del Valle (2003-2005). The financial sector has been privileged in the process of organizational transformation, due to the fact that its companies have presented significant changes, both in his organizational structure and in the technological aspects, that have allowed a greater orientation towards the client and the uses of new ways of relating to this one. The article presents a characterization of the sector through its conformation into economic groups and indicates the most important fusions and organizational transformations in Colombia.
