| Abstract | Chile, is the main copper producer in the world, has a long history of mining tradition. The Chilean National Society of Mining (SONAMI) groups private entrepreneurs miners seeking participate and contribute in the private mining progress. Its documentation center plays an important roll through the rescue of cultural mining patrimonies along with the cultural and documentation management. The Mining Journal (Boletin Minero) has been an important instrument used and developed by our society as a source of information for the mining community. It has been edited since 1883, and currently joins more than 1.372 editions published. This journal has been digitalized, being now available through www.sonami.cl. Recently, two important projects that rescue chilean mining tradition came from the revision and analysis of our journal data: 1) SONAMI´s Ex president’s portraits gallery and bibliography, which is a recognition for ours mining contributors. 2) Meeting and commemoration of the first SONAMI´s headquarter in an historical building. It belongs to the Municipal Theater of Santiago and School of Ballet of Santiago. In conclusion, the research and analysis of bibliographic data librarians can contribute in the development of new cultural projects. |
