| Abstract | In the last few years, the natural environment is becoming a key analysis element for firms. Several factors determine a firm's level of development with regard to environmental issues, which are not autonomous but interdependent. Of all of them, this paper analyses to what extent the management's environmental awareness is related to specific actions in the firms, specifically, to their intention to implement environmental management systems. Following Ajzen's planned behaviour theory, and through an empirical analysis, we observe that the strategic importance fmns attach to the natural environment, their consideration of this as a competitiveness factor for the firm and the managers' perception ofthe pressure factors as an opportunity are related to the firms' intention to implement environmental management systems. |
