| Abstract | The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of processing (dried or silage) sorghum grain, using the technique of in vitro gas production. Whole dried sorghum (WDS), dry cracked sorghum (DCS), whole silage sorghum (WSS) and cracked silage sorghum (CSS) were used. Data were analyzed using a completely randomized design and were compared the methods silage (S) vs. dry (D) and whole grain (W) vs. cracked grain (C). CP content was higher (P <0.001) for WSS, while the starch content was higher (P<0.01) for CSS. In vitro gas production was lower (P>0.01) for WDS and DCS, DMd was higher (P<0.01) for DCS and WDS. The results show that sorghum grain silage and either whole or broken decrease in vitro digestibility, acetic acid and methane production, compared with untreated sorghum. Additional |
