| Abstract | This study attempts to discover and establish connections between scientific theory and literary perception to identify the degree to which dreams and stories are related to each other and if this relationship has some effect on receptors. For this exercise, the story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” (“Un senor muy viejo con alas enormes”) (1978) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and the video Losing My Religion (1991) by the U.S. rock band REM were used. From the analysis and observations made for this study, it is found that humans have the ability to enter into a trance state and it is suggested that beyond the images that are created or presented to subjects, there is the possibility of completing one's own symbolic patterns to acquire another perspective of reality. |
