| Abstract | Sanchez, J., cobo, F. & Gonzalez, M. A. (2007). Biology and feeding ecology of brook charr, Salvelinus fontinalis (Mitchill, 1814), in five glacier lagoons of the Sierra de Gredos (Avila, Spain). Nova Acta Cientifica Compostelana (Bioloxia), 16: 129-144 Growth, fertility and body condition of the brook charr, Salvelinus fontinalis (Mitchill, 1814), were studied during summer period at five glacier lagoons of the Sierra de Gredos (Spain), and diet composition described. A total of 49 stomachs were analyzed, and 10709 preys were obtained. Most abundant preys were Nabiidae (Heteroptera), Formicidae (Hymenoptera) and adults of Chironomidae (Diptera). Apparently there are no groups of individuals specialized on certain prey items, and no clear tendencies were observed depending on sex or age class (no significant differences were observed between sexes or among age classes). Diel activity patterns over summer season show a peak of feeding activity around noon, although age class 2+ individuals feed continuously till dusk. |
