| Abstract | OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an international project developed in order to create and provide free global world maps. Started in the UK in August 2004, OSM was reached in May 2011 400.000 partecipants. They record geographic data by GPS tools or editing vector data, using high resolution aerial images. In this paper we compare the OSM cartographic results achieved at the moment (July 2011) for a little town located at the border between Italy and Slovenia, Gorizia-Nova Gorica. As well known, after the Second World War the National border was drawn just off the town centre of Gorizia, splitting this municipality between Italy and Yugoslavia. Besides in the “cold war” period (after the 1947) a new town was built: Nova Gorica in Yugoslavia (like a sort of Gorizia copy). Recent events (the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the European admission of Slovenia) assure better conditions for a shared future of this urban area, so it’s important to have a comparable geographic information (for example, to the regional planning). In order to understand the role of the border in the mapping acBollettino A.I.C. nr. 143 / 2011 349 LA RAPPRESENTAZIONE DELLE CITTÀ DI CONFINE NELLA CARTOGRAFIA LIBERA DI OPENSTREETMAP: IL CASO DI GORIZIA-NOVA GORICA BORDER TOWNS IN OPENSTREETMAP PROJECT: THE GORIZIA AND NOVA GORICA CASE STUDY * Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione e dei Processi Culturali Università degli Studi di Trieste AIC 143 p349 Mauro_Layout 1 17/10/12 12.02 Pagina 349 |
