| Abstract | Introduction: The cleft lip and palate come as the more frequent congenital anomaly in the face, happening as isolated disorders or associated to other abnormalities, it could result in speech and hearing disorder linked to speech and orofacial motricity. Objective: To characterize aspects of the orofacial exam correlating the kind of cleft with the tongue rest position and deglutition, as well as its performance in the accomplishment of orofacial praxis, in subjects with cleft lip and palate accompanied in the Plastic Surgery Craniomaxillofacial Department of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA). Methods: It is a cross study, performed by documental researches accomplished in the registrations of cleft lip and palate handbooks cases, assisted in HCPA. Of the 123 selected handbooks, it was stratified 34 data, for presenting complete orofacial evaluation. Results: the unilateral incisive transforamen cleft had prevailed (32,4%); there were a discreet male prevalence (55,9%) and age group from 6 to 10 years old (26,5%). The tongue position in rest showed altered in most of the presented cases, as well as in the deglutition function. The limitation or tongue asymmetry in the accomplishment of orofacial praxis showed equally in most of the cases. |
