| Abstract | Being a Creole in times of the Viceroyship, Zama feels uprooted and accepts the conquerors values, denying his own identity and his ties to his homeland. Instead of recognizing his Latin American origins or claim control over his land, Zama insists stubbornly on being recognized in a European caste system that subjugates both creoles and natives. The spatial interpretation of the heros path allows us to understand and satirize the image of the Latin American reality. Instead of taking his desired boat trip to Spain, Zama has to leave the city and go deep into natives territory, in the heart of the Latin American jungle, to finally recognize his true identity. |
