| Abstract | Construction is one of the sectors that most consumes natural resources and uses energy intensively, generating significant environmental impacts and large amounts of waste. The use of alternative products like Oriented Strand Board appears as a possibility to reduce these impacts and has gained more space in construction. The addition of waste materials in constituent matrix of these panels represents an alternative reuse of discards produced by the society and wood economy in the production process of these composites. The objective of this research was to evaluate the technical feasibility of producing OSB of Pinus sp. wood and castor oil based polypropylene resin with the addition of bio-oriented particles of polypropylene film (20%, 30% on the mass fraction of the wood particles). The panels' performance was evaluated by means of physical and mechanical properties. According to the EN 300:2006 standard; the panels were classified as OSB 4, for physical properties, and OSB 1, for modulus of elasticity and rupture obtained in static bending tests. The internal bond test property did not attend the above mentioned standard. Of all properties evaluated, only thickness swelling and water absorption were significantly influenced by the percentage of BOPP. |
