| Abstract | The asphalt concrete is a heterogeneous material co ntaining a bituminous matrix with viscoelastic properties and aggregates with elastic behavior. Me chanical behavior of the final mixture is strongly dependent to the behavior of bituminous matrix whic h is a thermo-sensitive material. During the fatigue test, cyclic solicitations create dissipate d nergy which is the source of auto-heating of material and consequently the decrease of binder ri gidity. In this paper, local dissipated energy density in the bituminous matrix as well as tempera ture evolution, under a fatigue test loading, is calculated using a heterogeneous simulation by fini te element method. The results of the numerical simulation at thin film of matrix show a dissipated nergy density until 30 times higher than the homogenized average value. Temperature evolution at this level is higher at first, but it disappears over time by effect of heat transfer to the aggrega t s of economical and safer societies requires to improve the means of transport and of energy produc tion.
