| Abstract | The Community College of Allegheny County's (CCAC's) Health Professions Opportunity: Pathway to Success in Healthcare (PSH) program will provide education and training in three healthcare tracks: Nursing, Emergency Medicine, and Medical Records/Health Information Technology. These pathways are designed as a career lattice that will allow program participants to enter, exit, and re-enter at each level outlined for each pathway. The project will target Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and low-income individuals (those with incomes at or below 70 percent of the poverty level in Allegheny County). The PSH program will enable students to successfully complete each training level by providing them with a package of wraparound services that can address multiple issues (academic, financial, and personal) that can impede their successful completion of college. Available supportive services include case management, academic supports, career services, child care, tuition assistance, and transportation assistance. The goal of the project will be to prepare, support, retain, and graduate 1,860 TANF recipients and low-income students from health occupational programs that lead to employment in health professions. Specifically, occupational training will be provided for the following: Registered Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic, Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant, Medical Insurance Coder, and Medical Record and Health Information Technician. CCAC will partner with the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, Pennsylvania CareerLink, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, Garfield Jubilee, Southwest PA Area Health Education Center, Angels' Place, Human Services Center Corporation-Mon Valley Providers, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Allegheny Health Network, Allegheny County EMS, and local 4-year universities to implement this program. CCAC has established a partnership with the Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYES) program to increase access to TANF recipients. KEYES is a collaborative program between the Department of Public Welfare and the Pennsylvania Community Colleges. |
