| Abstract | Objective: To identify the prevalence and risk factors associated with depression in patients with diabetes in the Endocrinology Service of Centro Medico Nacional «20 de Noviembre». Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among a population of 168 patients with diabetes in whom Becks depression scale was applied by direct interview. Clinical and biochemical data regarding duration of diabetes and degree of metabolic control, as well as the presence of diabetic complication, was analyzed, trying to fi nd correlation with the presence and severity of depression. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS software. Results: Depression was diagnosed in 62 (36.9%) patients, 35 (20.85%) have mild depression, 22 (13.1%) moderate depression and 5 (3%) had severe depression. Age, gender, marital status and BMI were not associated with the presence of depression.
