| Abstract | O conhecimento das variaveis agroclimaticas e importante para o planejamento das atividades agropecuarias de uma determinada regiao. Objetivou-se com este estudo realizar a classificacao e aptidao climatica para as culturas da banana e do abacaxi no estado da Paraiba. O calculo do balanco hidrico, classificacao climatica, elaboracao do evapopluviograma e o zoneamento agroclimatico das culturas foram realizados a partir de uma serie historica de precipitacao e temperatura do ar. Os valores das variaveis climaticas foram: temperatura do ar media anual 24,2 oC, precipitacao pluviometrica 846,5 mm ano -1 , evapotranspiracao potencial 1272,0 mm ano -1 , deficiencia hidrica 425,5 mm ano -1 e excesso hidrico 0,0 mm ano -1 . As condicoes agroclimaticas do estado da Paraiba foram classificadas como restrita para o cultivo da banana e do abacaxi, devido a ocorrencia de deficiencia hidrica acentuada. O clima do estado da Paraiba e seco semiarido, megatermico, com pequeno ou nenhum excesso de agua no solo e com 29,7% da evapotranspiracao potencial concentrada no trimestre mais quente do ano. Os resultados obtidos com este estudo proporcionam subsidios para o planejamento e implantacao das culturas da banana e do abacaxi pelos produtores do estado da Paraiba. A B S T R A C T Knowledge of agroclimatic variables is important for the planning of agricultural activities in a given region. The objective of this study was to perform the classification and climatic aptitude for banana and pineapple crops in the state of Paraiba. The calculation of the water balance, climatic classification, elaboration of the evapopluviograma and the agroclimatic zoning of the cultures were carried out from a historical series of precipitation and air temperature. The values of climatic variables were: annual mean air temperature 24.2 °C, rainfall 846.5 mm year -1 , potential evapotranspiration 1272.0 mm year -1 , water deficiency 425.5 mm year -1 and water excess 0.0 mm ano -1 . The agroclimatic conditions of the state of Paraiba were classified as restricted to the cultivation of banana and pineapple due to the occurrence of accentuated water deficiency. The climate of Paraiba state is semiarid, megahermic, with little or no excess water in the soil and with 29.7% of the potential evapotranspiration concentrated in the hottest quarter of the year. The results obtained with this study provide subsidies for the planning and implantation of banana and pineapple crops by the state of Paraiba.
