| Abstract | Organizational culture is a key element in the understanding and development of organizations. Constituting the common framework of basic assumptions, values, beliefs and attitudes, represents the way of interpreting reality and acting of individuals who make up the organization, articulates the symbols and organizational meanings, facilitates the processes of cohesion and organization, being closely related with other organizational phenomena such as identity, strategy, structure, operations and achieving objectives. The sociological study of the police has a long tradition in Anglo-Saxon countries, where the power of organizational culture is recognized in shaping the police thought and behavior patterns that develop police officers. The attention of organizational culture has an undeniable value for the understanding of the police as an institution, the types of policing, how to proceed in relations with citizens and therefore the social legitimacy it receives. Otherwise, you can understand the internal relationships and the degree of organizational diversity. The analysis of organizational culture has strategic value to facilitate change and organizational development. The theoretical framework of a review of the concept of organization from a sociological perspective and the theory of the organization and the structuring of the concept of organizational throughout its historical and social process culture. Subsequently it addressed in depth the organizational culture of the police, their concept, after investigation, conceptual models, the dimensions that compose it and the main types of police. The organizational culture of the police has been considered as a result of the type of work performed, characterized by tension and conflict. The research carried out deals with the study of organizational culture in the local police in Comunidad Valenciana (Spain). It proposes a framework for analysis of the police and its members, define the work developed, proposes specific elements for observation and analysis, providing tools for their specific measurement. Based on the use of different qualitative techniques, two self-administered questionnaires for quantitative research were built in two samples. The first evaluates the characteristics of police work in relation to occupational and organizational professional environments. It was administered to a sample of 954 local police to obtain a set of eight factors (exposure to risk conflict with citizens, organizational pressure, higher recognition, wear, social and personal consequences, recognition and professional achievement). The second measure different dimensions of organizational culture related to policing, professional practice, organizational performance, organizational internal relations and relations with citizens, was administered to a total of 1413 police, obtaining a set of fourteen factors by factor analysis. Statistical tests to evaluate both the significant differences between sample subgroups and the predictive value of different sociodemographic variables through multiple regression analysis were used. The results allow to draw a profile of organizational culture through the dimensions investigated, and shows the influence of professional work environment and organization on it. Overall, notable for being a collective employee morally in helping citizens, open to change, willing to community service and with a strong sense of group and particularly appreciates the professional recognition The degree of diversity in the police is analyzed in the last part of the research, develop a typology of police based on their attitudes by cluster analysis, yielding a set of five groups according to their cultural profile police service, police oriented offense, controller of the law, socializing-troubleshooter and discretionary. |
