| Abstract | Corrosion inhibition by some benzimidazolium bromide derivatives on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions at 25°Chas been investigated by Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electronic microscope analysis. There techniques were applied to study the metal corrosion behavior in the absence and presence of different concentrations of these inhibitors under the influence of various experimental conditions. The studies have shown that 1,3-Dioctylbenzimidazolium bromidewas the most efficient inhibitor reaching values of inhibition efficiency (IE%) more than 96% at a concentration of 10 M. The results indicate that these compounds act as mixed type inhibitors retarding the anodic and cathodic corrosion reactions. The results obtained from polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) are in good agreement. The thermodynamic parameters for adsorption process were calculated. |
