| Abstract | The production of biodiesel contributes to the conservation of the environment due to its low levels of pollutant emissions. It is usually made by transesterification of animal fats and/or vegetable fats with methyl alcohol. This research presents an economic evaluation of the production of biodiesel from recycled vegetable oil. Advantages and disadvantages are compared with pure diesel. Previous investigations show that the biodiesel plant origin has a lower performance, with regard to fuel consumption; as well as a lower thermal efficiency due to its reduced calorific power. However, an engine of diesel cycle under certain operating conditions, in general the biodiesel produces less polluting emissions in comparison with the pure diesel; in addition, the stability of operation of the engine, in what refers to the vibrations produced by the combustion process, is similar and in some cases better than with the use of pure diesel. The use of biodiesel also does not require changes in the engine or its components; but only adjustments in the parameters of the injection system such as the pressure and the time that the fuel injection lasts. With these precedents the objective of the present investigation is about determining scenarios and conditions so that the biodiesel production from recycled vegetable oil is a profitable and feasible investment. |
